For more than a month, speculators have had Spider-Man: Far From Home star, Zendaya pegged as the shoo-in to play Ariel in the upcoming live-action remake of Disney’s Little Mermaid. Now It looks like they’ve gone in a different direction with up and comer Halle Bailey.
If you haven’t heard of the 19-year-old star, it’s not too surprising. This will mark her first major acting role after a supporting stint on Freeform’s spin-off of the ABC hit Blackish, Grown-ish. Halle is also known as half of the singing group Chloe x Halle. The good news is that it means she can at least sing (check the video below).
Bailey is the first official casting in a film that has Melissa McCarthy in talks to play Ursula The Sea Witch, Jacob Tremblay to play Flounder, and Awkwafina to play Scuttle the seagull.
