/Film is reporting that DJ Caruso (Disturbia) is currently in talks to tackle the directorial duties for the big screen adaptation of Garth Ennis’ legendary comic book series “Preacher.” For those who’ve been following “Preacher’s” development, it hasn’t been easy to say the least. If Caruso lands the role, he will replace director Sam Mendes (Road to Perdition) who dropped out due to slow to standstill development.
Caruso’s involvement apparently involves on how well his next film, “I Am Number Four” performs at the box office. While it’s all a rumor for now, if he does land the directorial duties for “Preacher,” he’d have the pleasure of bringing John August’s (Big Fish) script to live.
According to producer Neil Moretz, “Preacher” will be a series of films and it will be “R” rated. Here’s what he had to say in a previous interview about the script:
We’ve got a great script. John August wrote a script that I think is terrific. The hardest thing was with all the books-the Preacher books-was how to distill it down. And what he made the smart decision instead of trying to cram everything into one, there’s plenty of room for 2 or 3 movies. So that’s what he’s done and he’s done a really faithful adaption but made it probably more accessible to a broader audience right now. That movie’s definitely R-rated and it’s an amazing central character.
Created by Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillion, “Preacher” tells the adventures of Texas reverend Jesse Custer, his girlfriend Tulip O’Hare and an Irish vampire named Cassidy. Together they set out across America to track down God who had abandoned creation.
