There are a lot of reasons for Disney and Lucasfilm to not make a movie about the early adventures of Han Solo. Casting Donald Glover as Lando might be the first reason it should happen.
The casting of Glover has been a rumor that’s been floating around for months, but it was finally confirmed by Disney this afternoon. The film’s directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (LEGO Movie), put out a short statement on the casting announcement shortly after it went public:
“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us. These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
They make a strong point. The community and Atlanta star just jumped to a whole new level of nerdgod existence.
Glover will be playing opposite Alden Ehrenreich, the young Han Solo. You can pretty much bet this means we’ll finally see how the Millennium Falcon switched owners from one of them to the other.
