As we get ready for reboot/ sequels of everything from Saved by the Bell to Punky Brewster, it only makes sense that the Neil Patrick Harris-led hit series, Doogie Howser, MD would eventually enter the conversation as well.
Disney+ has now announced that they’ll be rebooting the series under the title Doogie Kamealoha, MD. The new series, which will be set in Hawaii, will follow the story of Lahela “Doogie” Kameāloha, a mixed race 16-year-old girl, who is trying to find the balance between her life as a teenage girl and her budding career as a doctor. In the new show, Doogie’s mom will be an Irish woman who also happens to be her daughter’s supervisor at the hospital, while her father will be a Hawaiian who is struggling with his little girl growing up into both a woman and an MD.
We doubt that NPH will have an ongoing role to play in the series, but we also can’t imagine him passing up the chance at a cameo appearance if the opportunity presents itself.
