Part 2 of the Denis Villeneuve-directed Dune adaptation starring Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya has been pushed back from October 20, 2023, to November 17, 2023, according to a new report from Deadline. The reason for the film’s delay is to make room for the upcoming sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong, which is actually the fourth film in the kaiju franchise. The good news though, is that when it does hit theaters, it will also be hitting HBO Max on the very same day.
Slated for the same day is Lionsgate’s latest chapter in the Hunger Games franchise, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. So, for those of you keeping score, that’s a sequel of a re-adapted property getting pushed back for a sequel to a decades-old two-franchise merger, and going up against a prequel to a movie series that has already had at least four films. Originality is alive and well in Hollywood.
