According to a report by Variety, “Criminal,” the highly acclaimed crime noir comic book series by Ed Brubaker and Sean Philips, is being developed into a motion picture. Best of all, Brubaker himself will script the screenplay, which is based on the first story in the comic series “Coward,” that tells the story of a brilliant non-violent thief caught over his head in a brutal double-cross. Meanwhile, David Slade (Twilight: Eclipse, 30 Days of Night) is on board to direct.
Published by Marvel Comics and under the creator-owned Icon imprint, Criminal received an Eisner Award in 2007 for Best New Series. Unlike traditional story telling, “Criminals” feature different self-contained stories in each volume/arc.
Hunting Lane Films, the production company behind “Half Nelson” and “Blue Valentine” will produce.
Brubaker and Phillips are also currently working on a comic book sequel to “Coward.”
Superman is currently scheduled for release on July 11, 2025
The new series is set for a two-episode premiere, June 4 on Disney+.
