According to Hollywoodreporter, Eric Brevig is slated to helm Warner Bros.’ new Yogi Bear feature.
A classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon, Yogi Bear will be given a 3-D makeover similar to Fox’s 2007 hit Alvin & the Chipmunks. Brevig is a longtime visual effects supervisor (The Day After Tomorrow, Men in Black) who recently directed Warners and Walden’s “Journey to the Center of the Earth.”
Bot Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia, who were executive producers of “That ’70s Show,” will script the new adventures of Yogi and his sidekick Boo Boo in Jellystone Park.
Just like “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” Yogi is expected to be a mix of live action and CGI.
Yogi Bear appeared originally as a supporting character in 1958 to another classic cartoon, “The Huckleberry Hound Show.” It was not till 1961 that he got his own show featuring his exploits at Jellystone Park, accompanied by Boo Boo, getting into mischief and annoying their nemesis, Ranger Smith.
