A big part of me was hoping to be pleasantly surprised with The Fantastic Four, but it looks like everything we’ve feared about the newest attempt to bring the first family of Super Heroes to the big screen has missed the mark in a big way.
It was just a couple of days ago that Miles Teller (Reed Richards) said that he was expecting the film to get bad reviews. Then he tried to make up for it by saying that critics always give comic book movies low scores. Click here for that story and the supporting proof on how wrong he was.
As I sit here writing this, the current Rotten Tomatoes ranking is 9%. As a point of comparison, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 got a 38%.
Now, the film’s director, Josh Trank, has put out this Twee (which we expect Fox to force him to take down) that voices his displeasure. On the off chance that it gets pulled, here’s what it says:
“A year ago I had a great version of this. And it would have gotten great reviews. You’ll probably never see it. That’s reality though.”
– Yup, the original copy of this tweet is already gone. Here’s a capture of it from someone who retweeted it and responded to it.
The Tone of that Tweet lends a lot of credence to the rumors that the film was taken out of his hands a year ago… which is also rumored to be one of the reasons that the Star Wars Anthology film was taken away from him.
I really enjoyed Chronicle. This is more of a shame than anything else. Time to give Adi Shankar a chance.
