Last night, James Corden began his new gig as the host of The Late Late Show on CBS. While I was sad to see Craig Ferguson go, Corden seemed like he could be pretty interesting and I’ve always enjoyed his appearances on Doctor Who as The Doctor’s Roommate.
Last night’s show started exactly how I hoped. Corden seems just as surprised to have the job as everyone else is that he got it. He even came close to shedding a tear when he thanked his parents in the audience. That said, the show was fun and full of laughs with his two guests: Mila Kunis and Tom Hanks.
Format wise, the show is a lot closer to that of Graham Norton. Corden sits on a chair, not behind a desk, and all of his guests are on the couch together. It’s a great dynamic that definitely makes for some interesting conversation.
There were a couple of bits sprinkled into the show, both of which we’ve got for you below. The first was a video package explaining how Corden got the job by finding a golden ticket, and then his brutal training under stars like Jay Leno, Meryl Streep, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Shia Lebouf.
The second was a surprisingly entertaining bit where James and Hanks acted out bits from every Tom Hanks movie in just 8 minutes. Check them out below.
