Netflix’s Russian Doll was a big hit for the streamer and now Disney+ is poaching the show’s co-creator, Leslye Headland to be the showrunner on a newly announced live-action Star Wars series for their network.
Details on the new project are sparse. We just know that it will take place in a “different corner” of the Star Wars universe than all the other current stories and that it will be female-centric. Whenever we hear female-centric, we start hoping that they are talking about an Ahsoka Tano/ Sabine Wren series of them in the outer rim, looking for Ezra Bridger and Thrawn. But, with Rosario Dawson reportedly taking on the role in the second season of The Mandalorian, it sounds like that might be out of the question.
Personally, we don’t care what kind of centric the show is… we just want good stories. If they do that with a female-led cast, awesome. If they do it with a minority-led cast, great. Just give us good stories. That is all we want.
When the show eventually airs, it will be joining a growing slate of live-action Star Wars shows that includes The Mandalorian (which is already developing season 3), The Rogue One/ Cassian Andor prequel series starring Diego Luna and Allan Tudyk, and the long-awaited Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor.
