The trailers for the Mummy have been pretty interesting, but I’m not sure if they are enough to get anyone excited about the idea of rebooting the Universal Monsters into a new shared cinematic universe. Today, a third trailer for the film has dropped and it focuses more on what the dark powers of the world have in store for Tom Cruise’ character, Nick Morton, in this film and possibly beyond.
Like the other trailers, this one features voice over from Russell Crowe’s Dr. Jekyll, but this time it includes a mention that Cruise’ character has indeed been cursed. This is followed up later in the trailer with the reveal that his character’s eyes do the same splitty thingy that The Mummy’s do. So, does this mean he’s got special powers? Is he going to go dark? Will be be the hero of this new universe or will he perhaps be the big bad that ties them all together? Only time will tell.
Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
