It is still a little strange to say “Disney+’s Artemis Fowl,” but the studio may have made a smart move in shifting the release from an eventual theater opening to a new reason to get people in on their streaming platform. After all, even VOD offerings for new films are around $20. You can get a week free of Disney+ and then it’s only $6.99 a month. Still, it’s pretty amazing when you think about the scale of the film and the fact that it’s directed by Kenneth Brannagh.

Today, Disney released the first clip from the film in which we get to see the first stages of the story’s mystery beginning to unravel. Artemis Fowl stars Ferdia Shaw, Nonso Anozie, Colin Farrell, Josh Gad, Lara McDonnell, Hong Chau, and Judi Dench. You can check out Artemis Fowl when it hits Disney+ on June 12th.

Disney’s “Artemis Fowl,” based on the beloved book by Eoin Colfer, is a fantastical, spellbinding adventure that follows the journey of 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, as he desperately tries to save his father who has been kidnapped. In order to pay his ransom, Artemis must infiltrate an ancient, underground civilization—the amazingly advanced world of fairies—and bring the kidnapper the Aculos, the fairies’ most powerful and coveted magical device. To locate the elusive object, cunning Artemis concocts a dangerous plan—so dangerous that he ultimately finds himself in a perilous war of wits with the all-powerful fairies.
