Frank Herbert’s Dune is a unique and divisive work of science fiction. For some, it’s the pinnacle and for other’s it’s just a little too full of itself. No matter which camp you fall into, you’ll find that Denis Villeneuve has lived up to your expectations in the first trailer for this latest adaptation of the novel.

The trailer is deeply stylistic and very moody, as you’d hope from this type of material, and there’s no denying the awesomeness of the sand worm reveal. As to whether this type of hard scifi will resonate with box office fans, we aren’t sure. However, it doesn’t hurt that the cast includes Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atraeides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica Atreides, Oscar Issac as Duke Leto Atreides, Stephen Mckinley Henderson as Thufir Hawat, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Zendaya as Chani, Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Vladimir, Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Dr. Liet Kynes, Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban, Charlotte Rampling as Bene Gesserit, and Javier Bardem as Stilgar.

As of this report, Dune is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2020.

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
