Courtesy of USA Today, we have our first official look at M. Night Shyamalan’s Aang and Zuko from the live action adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” Aang will be played by 12-year-old unknown, Noah Ringer, while Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) will star opposite of him as the evil Prince Zuko.
Paramount’s Avatar, which has been under fire from organizations protesting its systematic exclusion of Asian descendant actors appears to be well underway in production as these images show. It appears that despite heavy criticisms of a “white washed” cast, Paramount has decided to move forward instead of recasting and perhaps delaying production or quenching the much heated racial controversy.
M. Night’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender debuts July 2, 2010.
