After a couple of disappointing animated trailers, this highly original looking stop-motion film from Wes Anderson is a welcome change. the story, which is set in near future Japan tells the story of a world where the “dog flu” has run rampant and all dogs have been quarantined on trash island. One human, not willing to accept this, steals a plane and flies it to the island where he begins an epic quest for his doggo.
Along with beautiful looking stop motion animation, you have to remember that this is a Wes Anderson film, so it’s guaranteed to have a great cast. Lending their voices to the film is a roster that includes: Edward Norton, Bryan Cranston, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Scarlett Johansson, F. Murray Abraham, Tilda Swinton, Kunichi Nomura, Harvey Keitel, Akira Ito, Akira Takayama, Koyu Rankin, Yoko Ono, Courtney B. Vance, Greta Gerwig, Frances McDormand, Bob Balaban, and Liev Schrieber.
ISLE OF DOGS tells the story of ATARI KOBAYASHI, 12-year-old ward to corrupt Mayor Kobayashi. When, by Executive Decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots. There, with the assistance of a pack of newly-found mongrel friends, he begins an epic journey that will decide the fate and future of the entire Prefecture.
Isle of Dogs hits theaters March of 2018.
