While I don’t agree with all the choices that he made in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, I’ve really enjoyed Rian Johnson’s previous outings like Looper and Brick, so I’m happy to see him getting back to something a little more original. Knives Out is Johnson’s new Whodunnit and it looks like the director is channeling Agatha Christie into his southern take on Poirot via Daniel Craig. The trailer looks interesting enough, but I wouldn’t want to get too much of the story from it anyways. After all, it’s a mystery. I don’t want it solved before I go to the theater. Still, it’s got me curious enough that I’ll be paying attention as we get more details along the way.
What really stands out about Knives Out is the cast. He’s assembled an all-star team of such a caliber that he’s removed any real excuse for the movie to fail. Along with Craig as the main detective, the film also stars Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford, Noah Segan, Edi Patterson, Riki Lindhome, Jaeden Martell, and Christopher Plummer.
Acclaimed writer and director Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper, The Last Jedi) pays tribute to mystery mastermind Agatha Christie in KNIVES OUT, a fun, modern-day murder mystery where everyone is a suspect. When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death. With an all-star ensemble cast including Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford and Jaeden Martell, KNIVES OUT is a witty and stylish whodunit guaranteed to keep audiences guessing until the very end.
