First Trailer For SyFy’s ‘Happy’, Starring Christopher Meloni and Patton Oswalt

It feels like someone took Christopher Meloni’s roles in Law and Order: SVU and Wet Hot American Summer, and mixed them in a blender with a bottle of JD… and that’s a good thing! Now, I have to admit that I’ve never read the comic book, but I’m a fan of Meloni and this looks like a seriously crazy show. I guess that is something you should expect when it’s from the same team who made ‘Crank.’

I expect there to be some instant backlash to the trailer, given that it starts with the main character shooting himself in the head and then dancing and dabbing to Christmas tunes while blood explodes from his skull, but I couldn’t help from laughing. When done right, that level of black comedy can be a great ride, especially when it’s juxatposed with something completely contradictory, like a CGI flying unicorn, voiced by Patton Oswalt.

Happy! is based on New York Times best-selling author Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson’s graphic novel of the same name. The series follows Nick Sax (Christopher Meloni, Law & Order: SVU) – an intoxicated, corrupt ex-cop turned hit man – who is adrift in a world of casual murder, soulless sex and betrayal. After a hit gone wrong, his inebriated life is forever changed by a tiny, relentlessly positive, imaginary blue winged horse named Happy (Patton Oswalt).

The holiday season will never be the same. Based on the extremely graphic novel by Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson, HAPPY! premieres December 6th on SYFY.
