First Trailer Released for Jackie Robinson Biopic ’42’

It has been a while since we’ve had a good baseball movie and it looks like 42 might be exactly the film we’ve been waiting for. The Jackie Robinson Biopic, directed by Brian Helgeland, just pushed out its first trailer and, in the scope of baseball films, it looks pretty damned epic.

This looks like it will be the first baseball film to truly take on the issues of racial tensions both inside and outside the league that made the hiring of Jackie Robinson, the first black Major League Ballplayer, just a big deal.

Chadwick Boseman plays Robinson, but he’s supported by an all-star cast that includes Harrison Ford, Christopher Meloni, Jon Bernthal, Alan Tudyk and John C. McGinley.

42 opens April 12th, 2013.

Official Synopsis:
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures are teaming up with director Brian Helgeland for “42,” the powerful story of Jackie Robinson, the legendary baseball player who broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier when he joined the roster of the Brooklyn Dodgers. “42″ will star Academy Award(R) nominee Harrison Ford (“Witness”) as the innovative Dodger’s general manager Branch Rickey, the MLB executive who first signed Robinson to the minors and then helped to bring him up to the show, and Chadwick Boseman (“The Express”) as Robinson, the heroic African American who was the first man to break the color line in the big leagues.
