Yesterday, we talked about how it seemed kind of quick for them to be putting out a Venom trailer. Today, we find out what happens when a movie puts out a trailer before it’s ready. We’re talking about a situation where even the film’s synopsis (as seen below) seems rushed. Yes, we get to see some of the main characters, we even get to see the symbiote in a canister, but the tease is so light that we really have no sense of what is going on, nor is there really enough there to grab the audience.
This film has the strange disadvantage of being a Marvel film in the age of the MCU, with characters closely tied to MCU characters (Spider-Man), but no connection to that universe or the people in it. It introduces Michelle Williams as “the ex girlfriend”, and limits any fan service to a bubbling jar of goo. I’m not sure that’s really enough to get people hyped.
It’s true, they’ve got 8 months before the film comes out, and I’m sure we’ll be seeing a full Veonized Hardy by the time Comic Con rolls around. In the meantime, I’m just not sure I’ve ever seen a more rushed and instantly forgettable trailer for a Marvel film.
