Fraggle Rock Film in Danger Of Being Studio’d To Death

To be honest, we’ve been a little skeptical about the Fraggle Rock movie from the get go. At first it was said that the project was going to be run pretty much by Ahmet Zappa. Nothing against the guy, but it just didn’t smell right. However, when Cory Edwards took over as Writer/Director of the movie, it was the first time we thought the movie might have a chance of… well, of not being another Muppet Wizard of Oz or Kermit: The Swamp Years.

The movie is being made by the Weinsteins. it looks like in typical Hollywood fashion, the brothers who used to be known for letting film makers express themselves and bring the film they felt was right to the screen, have now become what might be described as typical soulless Hollywood shills.

Here’s what the brass at the studio is telling Edwards about his plans for the movie.

The only overall note coming from the studio is this: “Not edgy enough.”

“EDGY.” That’s the note. That’s what they are trying to do to the Fraggle Rock movie. EDGE it up!

I have said repeatedly that I will do my very best to make this Fraggle movie relevant and modern, to compete with everything else out there. But what I will NOT do is sabotage what made the property beloved in the first place.

It is almost tempting to make this post for the WTF category and not entertainment because… seriously… WTF.

How many TV shows and movies have been beaten into complete and utter garbage because some studio exec wanted to make it “Edgier.” Why? Because, sadly, there are not a lot of ideas left in Hollywood, just marketing goals and number crunching. I guess that explains why there even is a Marmaduke movie…
