This is pretty much everything we could have hoped for. We were leery when we first heard that they were making a Mary Poppins sequel, but the first teaser was better than expected. Today we got our first look at the full trailer and we are sold. It’s got all the charm of the original and it seems to be doing a good part to pay respect to what came before it. That’s most noticeable in the 2D animation that they use for the live-action/animation scenes. It’s very reminiscent of the original.
For her part, Emily Blunt looks and sounds great as Mary Poppins, but the one thing we can’t get over is seeing 92-year-old Dick Van Dyke jumping up on the table and dancing. While we are sure there is some FX magic involved in getting him up there, the dancing is all him.
Along with Blunt and Van Dyke, Mary Poppins Returns stars: Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Angela Lansbury, Julie Walters, and David Warner.
In Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns,” an all-new original musical and sequel, Mary Poppins is back to help the next generation of the Banks family find the joy and wonder missing in their lives following a personal loss. Emily Blunt stars as the practically-perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any ordinary task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure and Lin-Manuel Miranda plays her friend Jack, an optimistic street lamplighter who helps bring light—and life—to the streets of London.
