Variety reported yesterday that “Game of Thrones” director Brian Kirk is currently in talks with Disney and Marvel to take on the directing duties of “Thor 2.” If Kirk gets hired he will effectively replace “Thor” director Kenneth Branagh who has left to purpose other endeavors.
If Kirk gets hired, this would be his first feature film. Aside from HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” Kirk has also directed episodes of “Dexter,” “Luther” and “Boardwalk Empire.”
The likelihood of Kirk landing the gig is solid and I believe he’d be a good fit replacing Branagh. Production should be underway as “Thor 2” is expected to hit theatres July 26th, 2013. Expect an official announcement from the studio regarding Kirk soon.
