While I remain cautious about the Ghost In The Shell remake from a qualitative perspective, I’ve never denied that the trailers for the film look visually stunning. One scene that has been in several trailers involves a robot geisha going crazy and killing a bunch of people. Believe it or not, a good portion of that was created as a practical effect over at WETA. Former Mythbuster and current Tested Guru had a chance to check out the robot heads and bodies used to make the scene possible, with WETA’s Richard Taylor. The detail that went into creating these animatronics is amazing and something that you’ll appreciate even more after this closer look.
Adam Savage visits Weta Workshop to get up close with some of the practical props the effects studio made for the upcoming film Ghost in the Shell. Weta Workshop’s Richard Taylor shows Adam the mechanical geisha masks and animatronic puppets his team created, and how Weta Workshop used new fabrication and design technologies to make these props possible.
