‘Ghostbusters 3’ Definately Happening, Reitman To Direct, Script Delivered!

After all this time and all this talk, “Ghostbusters 2” will happen. MTV confirms that Ivan Reitman, who directed and produced the first two movies, will return to helm the third installment. Additionally he also confirms that he has received a completed script written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (Year One, The Office US). A second draft is currently in the works.

Reitman (My Super Ex-Girlfriend), also adds that there are several new changes in the script but danced around about Sigourney Weaver’s return and Bill Murrary’s character now being a ghost. “I’m not going to comment on what’s in the script and on what Sigourney may or may not have said,” Reitman says. “She’s been so busy on Avatar, I’ve not been able to find her. There’s some very cool things in the new draft, let’s just put it that way.”

“Ghostbusters 3” is scheduled to shoot next year with an unconfirmed or announced release date. Take note however, that this contradicts Harold Ramis’ previous comment last December where he said shooting was going to take place in the summer of 2010 with a release date of 2011.

Assuming we can take Reitman’s word, “Ghostbusters 3” doesn’t seem like it’ll hit theaters until at least 2012.
