After being shelved for many years, “Ghostbusters 3” seems to be finally taking off. Director Harold Ramis says it may start shooting next summer with a 2011 screening. Ramis also teased at other tidbits revealing the possible plot detail of the film. It also appears that he may be leaning toward a Ghostbusters: The New Class type movie, where we see a continuation of the story with new blood in training.
This is what Ramis had to say when he spoke with Heeb Magazine:
Something’s going to happen. Dan [Aykroyd] did write a spec GB3 screenplay a few years ago, but no one was motivated to pursue it. Now, 25 years after the original, there seems to be some willingness to proceed and apparently a substantial public appetite for a sequel. We’ll introduce some new young Ghostbusters, and all the old guys will be in it, too. Think Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future … GB3 is progressing with plans to shoot next summer and release in 2011 … Oh, and I have two one-of-a-kind Ghostbuster yarmulkes sent by fans.
With rumors floating around that Bill Murray may return as a ghost, Ghostbusters 3 has the potential to be awesome or a complete disaster. Going in a new direction makes sense, and a long as the new cast is likable and cast right, I don’t see why GB3 would fail or why the franchise can’t carry on even further with a fourth film.
