Next to James Gunn, there has been no member of the Guardians of The Galaxy family that has had a bumpier road over their time with the MCU. With GOTG Vol 3. Gunn is closing the book on his time with the Guardians and the MCU and heading over to Warner Bros where people are too busy yelling at him for not keeping Henry Cavill as Superman before waiting to see what his actual plans are. For Bautista, there is a little more mystery in his future.
The former wrestler came into his own as Drax in the MCU, but he’s been critically lauded for more serious roles like Bladerunner 2049, and the recently released Glass Onion. When Gunn was temporarily canned at Disney, Bautista quit as Drax and refused to return without him. Thankfully we got them both back, but Vol. 3 on the horizon, it’s looking like that’s a wrap on Drax.
We know that not everyone will survive the next Guardians movie. Gunn has already stated that this is the end of this version of the team. Now Bautista is also stepping up to let fans know that it’s been an honor, but he’s never getting back in the make-up chair for the MCU again.
Here’s what he had to say in a new interview with GQ
“I’m so grateful for Drax. I love him. But there’s a relief [that it’s over]. It wasn’t all pleasant. It was hard playing that role. The makeup process was beating me down. And I just don’t know if I want Draw to be my legacy – it’s a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff.”
