‘Green Lantern’ Movie To Film In Mexico?

Rumor has it the “Green Lantern” film may be moving south of the border to Mexico for production, unofficially negating the previously rumored shift to Louisiana from Australia.

According to Inside Film, if the production were to remain in Australia, the film would cost an additional $20 million to make. The site quotes an anonymous source allegedly connected with the studio saying, “We still haven’t given up on ‘Green Lantern,’ but the way the exchange rate is going up it’s looking more and more unlikely.”

Financial problems for the new Ryan Reynolds film isn’t anything new. In fact, issues for came to light back in August, when it was revealed that “Warner Brothers’ failure to secure needed tax breaks from the Australian government and the unexpectedly strong Australian dollar had exponentially driven up the cost of the film.”

Moreover, “Green Lantern” director Martin Campbell reportedly made “substantial script amendments,” which could require the film’s budget to increase.

With all these critical changes and financial rough patches, “Green Lantern’s” release date of June 2011 is in danger, having already been pushed back from November of 2010.
