This June, Tom Hanks is going to CGI Sea to tell us a tale inspired by real events of WWII. While the story of trying to safely get a convoy of US ships across the ocean and past an armada of German U Boats is interesting, the thing that really caught our eye about the movie is that Hanks isn’t just the star. He actually wrote the screenplay too.
While this film may be a far cry from That Thing You Do!, the actor has had plenty of experience playing at war in other films like Saving Private Ryan. If they pull it off, we could be looking at a very intense, nail-biter of a summer blockbuster.
The only thing more dangerous than the front lines was the fight to get there. Screenplay by Tom Hanks inspired by actual events, Greyhound comes to theaters June 12. In the early days of WWII, an international convoy of 37 Allied ships, led by captain Ernest Krause (Tom Hanks) in his first command of a U.S. destroyer, crosses the treacherous North Atlantic while hotly pursued by wolf packs of Nazi U-boats.
