The newest ride at Disney’s Epcot theme park is going through cast previews before an official open later this month and its none other than Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Now, as to why there’s a GOTG ride in Epcot and not in Hollywood Studios, we don’t know, but this is where they built it and they aren’t going to move it.
WDNT has not only put up a great POV video of the ride, but they’ve also posted an extensive and honest review of the ride. We haven’t been on it yet, and we are partially excited, but we are also a little bummed. In the initial planning for the ride, it was slated to have as many as ten different animatronics, but due to budget cuts (Chapek), the ride eventually cut out all animatronics in favor of a ride that is driven entirely by screens and projection.
The omnicoaster system looks great, and if this ride is a proof of concept for what could be done in the future, we are all in. It just feels like relying on screens and projection moves away from the tangible wonder that makes Disney rides magical.
