Hackers Hijack Disney’s ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’

It’s been a busy few weeks for hackers. First, some of them managed to steal and release Netflix’s new episodes of Orange is The New Black, then they caused worldwide havoc with the ‘WannaCry’ ransomware attack, and now it is being reported that some hackers have managed to steal the most ironic thing possible, the new Disney Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Dead Men Tell No Tales.

According to Deadline, the hackers are demanding an “enormous amount of money be paid to Bitcoin.” Disney, for their part, is currently refusing to pay and is working closely with the FBI. Publicly, Disney CEO Bob Iger has told employees that a hack did take place, but he hasn’t specified which film was pilfered.

If the hackers’ demands are not met by their deadline, they are threatening to release the film in small chunks until the complete movie is available online.

If the movie is leaked, it could add up to a substantial loss for Disney. By comparison, costs and profits for the last Pirates film, ‘On Stranger Tides,’ cost Disney $250 million in production costs and brought in $1,045,713,802 globally, according to Boxofficemojo.com
