Hasbro Now Owns Peppa Pig and… Death Row Records

Last week, it was reported that Hasbro Toys had purchased Entertainment One. For a company best known for brands like GI Joe, My Little Ponies, and Transformers, buying the company that owns a powerhouse kids brand like Peppa Pig makes a lot of sense. But, when you buy a big company, sometimes you get a special treat, like an extra-long fry at the bottom of your bag.

It turns out, that along with the Peppa brand, Entertainment One had, along the way, purchased rap record label, Death Row Records. The company was founded in 1991 by Suge Knight, The D.O.C., and mediocre headphone shill, Dr. Dre. Over the course of its existence, it had rap icons Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg amongst its stable of performers. In 2006, Death Row went bankrupt and it has been bouncing around from company to company ever since, usually packaged with other IP. Now, it’s landed at Hasbro.

What will Hasbro do with Death Row? They’ll probably sell it. However, it means they could use Death Row music in upcoming Hasbro films like the Henry Golding led Snake Eyes film set to reboot the GI Joe franchise or the next Transformers movie. In the meantime, we’re hoping they find a way to come out with a series of Marvel Legends style icons of rap figures. They could make Biggie Smalls the Build-a-fig. They just need to modify the Kingpin sculpt.
