HBO Max To Lose Several DC/WB Movies Next Month

In the same ways that Disney+ relies heavily on the availability of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for their subscribers, it seemed like HBO Max felt the same way about the DCEU films, especially after the recent announcement that the Snyder Cut of Justice League would finally get released on the streamer. Now, it looks like many of the DC films that were present on the network when it launched will be gone as soon as July 1st.

Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad, Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, Catwoman, Jonah Hex, and The Losers are all currently streamable on HBO Max, but they’ll be disappearing on July 1st, leaving only Aquaman, Shazam!, Joker, Green Lantern, and Supergirl. The network says that the plan is to rotate properties over time, but that isn’t exactly making fans of the films happy, especially now that the DCEU is getting a second look by fans who are excited about the Snyder Cut.

It could be that the films are being pulled to satisfy existing distribution deals, much in the same way that Disney+ has had to temporarily pull Home Alone and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. If that is the case, the movies should return as soon as those deals expire.
