If your only exposure to Hellboy is from the films, you have a very specific idea of the Hellboy that you think you’ll be seeing in the upcoming Hellboy: The Crooked Man film. The problem is that those films take place in the present and this film takes place 70 years ago in the 1950s. That means we’ll be seeing a younger version of Hellboy and we now know that the man playing him is Deadpool 2’s Jack Kesy.
Here’s what co-President of Millennium Media, Jonathan Yunger told Deadline about the casting:
“Jack Kesy is a dynamic actor who has the ability to morph into his roles. His talent and stature are perfect for this younger Hellboy. I was very impressed with him while working together on The Outpost.”
If you aren’t familiar with the Crooked Man story, here’s the synopsis of the comics via Amazon:
In 1956, somewhere in the mountains of West Virginia, Hellboy encounters Tom, a man who in his youth sold his soul to a backwoods demon known as the Crooked Man. Together they travel back into the dark heart of the Appalachian mountains to confront that demon and see if Tom’s soul can’t be saved. This three-issue series reunites Mignola and legendary horror artist Richard Corben (Hellboy in Mexico, Hellboy: Makoma, Hellboy: Being Human) in a tale of witchcraft rooted in Appalachian folklore.
