It’s been known for a while that there have been talks going on behind the scenes to bring Chris Evans back to the MCU in some capacity now that he has gone back in time to live his life with Peggy Carter. Now, a new rumor from Giant Freaking Robot is saying that he’ll be popping up in Doctor Strange: The Multiverse of Madness in not one, but two different roles… neither of which is Captain America.
According to the report, the reality bending film starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange and Elizabeth Olsen as The Scarlet Witch will give fans a peek into a veritable What If-sized multiverse experience. And, when you take the studio-jumping crossover from last week’s Episode of WandaVision, this could actually make sense.
The first rumored appearance of Chris Evans will be him as Steve Rogers, but he’ll be Steve Rogers from the Secret Empire storyline. That’s right, Chris Evans will be Captain Hydra. It will be interesting to see if Marvel goes this route, as a lot of fans really did not like the idea of Cap being a double agent working for Hydra for most of his life. So, we aren’t exactly sure the studio will want to bring it back so quickly.
The Second, and definitely more fun rumor is that he’ll pop onto the scene as none other than Johnny Storm. Evans made his superhero debut as The Human Torch in the Tim Story directed Fantastic Four films. The movies weren’t great, but they do hold a special place in the hearts of fans… especially in comparison with Fan4Stick. It sounds like this could be a very goofy cameo, but that’s why we think Evans might jump at the chance to do it. It’s also a great way to introduce the idea of the Fantastic Four to the MCU without having to actually introduce the cast of the upcoming film yet.
