“Heroes” Panics at Low Ratings, Does Something Stupid

Heroes, the hit NBC show that has been slumping in ratings this season to due to a murky plot that blurs the line between good and evil and is trying whatever they can to save the ship. According to the Hollywood Reporter, “Two ‘Heroes’ co-executive producers, Jesse Alexander and Jeph Loeb, have exited the show because of creative differences.

The move follows a slow ratings start to the third season, in which ‘Heroes’ has posted several series lows.”

Other reports are saying that they didn’t so much leave as much as they got the boot.

The real problem here isn’t Jeph Loeb. He’s proven the ability to build a strong story. The problem is that the show got to clever for its own good and there’s no one there to give it a sound thwack to the forehead. We live in a time where people are flooded by the news with stories that make our trust in everything waver. We don’t know who is good, who is evil, who is lying and who has what motives behind their actions. TV is our escape. We like a good guy and a bad guy. People want someone to root for and a villain to boo. Heroes was very clear with that theme in season one. Now, they go out of their way to make it messy just because they think people want the more detailed story. Sure, give us the story, but dammit man… don’t treat the premise of the show like some first day prison inmate who dropped the soap in the shower and was stupid enough to bend over.
