Netflix has developed a reputation of being the home for movies that weren’t good enough to make it on the big screen. Some of the biggest duds to hit the streamer in the last year included The Cloverfield Paradox, Andy Serkis’ Mowgli, and the recent Sandra Bullock horror flick – Bird Box. Now we are finding out that one new film was so bad that Netflix refused it. We’re talking about ‘Holmes and Watson’, the new film from Will Ferrel and John C. Reily that currently has a 7% on Rottentomatoes (up from 0% the other day).
Deadline is reporting that Sony tried to get Netflix to take the move off their hands, but the test screening scores were so bad that Netflix decided they didn’t want to take a chance on it. This is pretty impressive given that the pairing of Ferrel and Reilly have a built-in fan-base after films like Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Step Brothers. It’s even more amazing if you’ve seen some of the Adam Sandler films that Netflix has produced (we aren’t talking about his new stand-up special, that’s actually pretty darn good!).
The Step Brothers are reunited – this time playing the world’s greatest consulting detective and his loyal biographer – as Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly star as Holmes & Watson.
