‘Hot Tub Time Machine’ Director Steve Pink To Remake ‘The Toxic Avenger’

Since the remake rights to Troma Films were acquired by producer Akiva Goldsman, Richard Saperstein and Charlie Corwin last April we haven’t had any news. That’s all about to change today as “Hot Tub Time Machine” director Steve Pink was announced as the director for the remake of “The Toxic Avenger.”
In addition to directing, he will join Daniel C. Mitchell and help pen the script.

“The Toxic Avenger” is expected to be an environmentally-conscious action-comedy and it will be loosely based off the original story involving a mop-wielding simpleton named Melvin who is accidentally exposed to toxic waste and transformed into Toxie, the anti-polluting superhero.

Corwin’s Original Media, which is a partnership with Dutch reality TV maker Endemol, is funding development of what the makers call an environmentally-conscious action-comedy. The original movie that came out in the 80s was a cheezy B movie that spawned several sequels and even a cartoon series.

“The Toxic Avenger is exactly what the country–wait, that’s not big enough–what the world needs right now,” said Pink, who also directed “Accepted” and and had a hand in scriping “Grosse Pointe Blank” and “High Fidelity.”
