Rumors are flying from behind the walls at HBO Max that there’s a real concern fans are so unhappy at how Game of Thrones ended that they won’t want to watch any new content from the franchise. There are even rumors floating around that David Zaslav has met with George R.R. Martin to pull a redux on the final two seasons and remake them in the same way that millions of Star Wars fans wish they’d do with the sequel trilogy. With that said, new projects are moving forward and we finally have a full trailer for House of Dragon, the prequel series set hundreds of years before the events of Game of Thrones.
We checked out the new trailer, and it lays out a family struggle over who will be the next person to sit on the Iron Throne. in fact, if you take a drink every time they say Iron Throne in the trailer, you’ll die of alcohol poisoning. Will it be Matt Smith’s Daemon Targaryen, or will it be his niece, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, played by Emma D’Arcy? Who is to say? The bigger question is whether fans will show up to find out.
Along with Smith and D’Arcy, the House of Dragons stars Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Fabien Frankel, Rhys Ifans, Milly Alcock, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Emily Carey, Harry Collett, Ryan Corr, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jefferson Hall, David Horovitch, Wil Johnson, John Macmillan, Graham McTavish, Ewan Mitchell, Theo Nate, Matthew Needham, Bill Paterson, Phia Saban, Gavin Spokes, and Savannah Steyn.
House of the Dragon premieres August 21 on HBO Max.
