It appears DreamWorks Animation has a bonafide new franchise with their hit CG-animated film “How To Train Your Dragon.” DreamWorks Animation has signed a deal with Cartoon Network for a for a “How To Train Your Dragon” weekly series, which will launch in both the U.S. and internationally in 2012.
The original film which was released earlier this year about a young Viking and his unlikely friendship with a dragon grossed nearly $500 million at the worldwide box office and was perhaps one of the best 3D action-adventure films this year. Currently its sequel is set for a 2012 release which the new series will coincide with.
“Dragon” will represent another one of DreamWorks’ animated films to find its way to television. In the past, the company has produced a series of Shrek, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda TV specials for ABC and NBC.
