In a Depressed World, Fox Goes For Glee

Fox has picked up 13 episodes of hourlong musical comedy “Glee” for midseason.

KNowing them, if the show is any good, it will get canceled well before the show order runs out.

“I’ve had one of the best experiences of my career with Ryan Murphy doing ‘Nip/Tuck’ and we’re excited to re-create that experience here,” said Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly, who formerly led programming at FX. “The second he pitched us ‘Glee,’ it was like he had it in his sights yet again. It’s got his trademark wicked sense of humor and its heart in the right place and feels like a show for the times.”

“Glee” centers on Will (Matthew Morrison), a thirtysomething Spanish teacher at an Ohio high school who has the task of taking over the school’s glee club, which has become a haven for outcasts. The project was co-written by Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, and developed at the network by Reilly and entertainment chairman Peter Liguori
