The Japanese trailer for Pacific Rim: Uprising over the weekend at Tokyo Comic Con and it looks like it is made up almost entirely of new footage. While I loved the original, I’m growing a little skeptical of the sequel from a design standpoint. Everything seems much flatter and less interesting looking without Guillermo Del Toro’s hand on it. Still, I’m definitely going to check it out because… well, because giant robots vs giant monsters.
One interesting tidbit from the trailer is a quote from John Boyega, who has joined the cast as the son of Idris Elba’s character in the first film. In the footage, he says that he did more action in this film than he’s done in any other movie he’s been a part of. That’s an interesting statement given that he’s about to return in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, in less than 2 weeks!
Meanwhile, Pacific Rim: Uprising, which also stars: Rinko Kikuch Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian, Cailee Spaeny, Burn Gorman, Adria Arjona, and Charlie Day, will hit theaters on March 23.
