‘Iron Man’ Writers Hired To Pen New ‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot Hired

Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby have been hired by GK Films to pen the new “Tomb Raider” reboot being produced by Graham King and Tim Headington.

GK Films had acquired the film rights to Square Enix’s classic video game featuring adventure-seeking heroine hunter Lara Croft two months ago with plans to release the first film from the action franchise in 2013.

Both writers are serious about meeting that goal and have even released a bold statement about their plans for the franchise, claiming they want to create an “origin story for Lara Croft that solidifies her place alongside Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor in the pantheon of great female action heroes.”

At this time, no actors have been cast, and there’s no word whether Angelina Jolie who played Lara Croft in the 2001 an 2003 films from Paramount will reprise the role.

Both Fergus and Ostby have been credited for their work on the adaptation of Alfonso Cuaron’s “Children of Men,” which they were nominated for an Oscar. The duo were also responsible for the 2008 “Iron Man” and the the currently in development US remake of “Akira.” They also were involved as one of the several writers for Cowboys & Aliens, starring Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig.
