Every instinct in my body wants to scream that the Troll movie is going to suck, and suck hard. It’s another rehash of an old toy line by a company hoping they can at least make as much on the nostalgia and merchandise as they will on ticket sales. The first teasers came out and they had suck all over them. Now, we’ve got the first trailer and I find myself feeling like there may actually be something here.
I can’t argue that the cast has a lot going for it. The two leads are Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick, but then you’ve also got a supporting cast that includes: Russell Brand, James Corden, Kunal Nayyar, Ron Funches, Icona Pop, and Gwen Stefani. What actually has me interested though, is the story. Dreamworks has put together an interesting premise that seems delightfully weird. I wish the second trailer for Ghostbusters had turned me around like this.
DreamWorks Animation’s TROLLS is an irreverent comedy extravaganza with incredible music! From the genius creators of SHREK, TROLLS stars Anna Kendrick as Poppy, the optimistic leader of the Trolls, and her polar opposite, Branch, played by Justin Timberlake. Together, this unlikely pair of Trolls must embark on an adventure that takes them far beyond the only world they’ve ever known.
