Over the weekend, we brought you the first trailer for John Wick: Chapter 2, from NYCC. While I have misgivings about the story seeming forced and unnecessary when compared to the original film, which was essentially perfect, from a storytelling perspective, the studios know when they’ve got a monetizable franchise on their hands.
While talking to the film’s director, Chad Stahelski, a reporter from Collider.com was able to get this scoop about the future of the franchise:
“The studio has asked us to put our heads together and see if we can come up with something. Winston’s [McShane] is a big part of the next one, so is Lance Reddick. We’ve got some ideas.”
The good news, for me at least, is that there’s talk of expanding Lance Reddick’s role. As I mentioned in my last post, I firmly believe that the sequels should leave Keanu Reeve’s Wick behind as the main character (make him a cameo), and focus on Reddick’s Charon, the concierge at a hotel for assassins.
John Wick: Chapter 2 hits theaters February 10, 2017.
