The Netflix Marvel characters have begun their migration to the MCU. Kingpin showed up in the Hawkeye series and Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock had an excellent cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Now word is out that Jon Bernthal’s Punisher is coming back for a new series as well.
The new rumor, via Smallscreen, which claims to have been verified by internal sources at Disney says that a new series, starring Bernthal is in development, but it will be going to Hulu in the US and Disney Plus Star in the UK. This will allow them to maintain the integrity and grit of the character that Bernthal said he required if he was going to come back to the role.
Here’s what Bernthal said about what he would need to see to revisit the character of Frank Castle:
The character’s very much of my bones. That said, I also know how important this character is to so many people. I just don’t want to see the character being handled in a light way. I would only want to be a part of it if it was done the right way. He’s an extraordinarily dark character that is not looking to escape that darkness. I think that’s a really difficult road to go down these days. I would love to do it if we could do it right. It’s not it’s just not about doing it, it’s about doing it right.
If the rumor is true, and the fact that it’s being set for Hulu is a good indication that it might be, there’s a very good chance that an announcement could be coming in the next couple of months.
