Nothing has gone well for the fox/Marvel New Mutants film. It’s undergone major re-shoots, massive delays, possible genre changes, and more bad press than Disney wants near any of their films. Now, it’s looking less and less likely that the film will ever see a theatrical release under Disney Ownership.
In a report from Variety on the recent Disney earnings call that placed heavy blame for lax earnings on the failure of FOX’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix, it was also said that the studio is unimpressed with New Mutants and only sees the film as having ‘limited box office potential.’ It’s hard to imagine the studio wanting to put any marketing into a film that they don’t expect to turn a profit on. Instead, they are far more likely to dump it onto Hulu, where at least people are watching via subscription or also viewing ads.
