A new TV series is being planned by James Cameron based on his 1994 action-comedy movie “True Lies,” which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Arnold, Bill Paxton and Tia Carrere.
“True Lies” the series is being set up at Lightstorm Entertainment and 20th Century Fox TV. Rene Echevarria (4400, Castle) will act as showrunner, writing and producing the series, which is currently being shopped around to the networks.
The original “True Lies” film followed Harry Tasker, an everyday man who lead a double life as a government spy under a counter-terrorism task force called The Omega Sector.
I loved the movie growing up and I can’t imagine how badass the similar premise would be for a new action-comedy show. It might be a little hard to imagine someone else as Harry Tasker, but Lightstorm could very easily start the series with a new agent and family. I hope this show gets picked up, because from the looks of it, a “True Lies 2” doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon. A TV series is probably as good as it gets.
