The Avatar sequels have been in production for so long that it almost feels as if they are being filmed on stock made from unobtanium. Amazingly, they are happening and they are on the way. Also, amazingly, is that they will actually be Disney films when they are released as FOX is now part of Disney. This makes the Avatar/ Pandora Theme Park at Disney’s Animal Kingdom seem much more logical.
In a new interview, filmmaker James Cameron talked about a couple of really interesting details on the new film. First up, he talks about motion-capture vs live action in the film:
“[Performance-capture] is the vast majority of the characters, and that is the vast majority of the running time of the film,” explained Cameron. “That pesky little live-action component is going to cost me five months of my life, across the two movies.”
Additionally, Cameron gave fans a tease on the timeline of the film, stating that it would take place several years after the events of the first film and one pivotal scene will be seen from the POV of Jake and Neytiri’s 8-year-old daughter.
“There’s a three-page argument scene between Jake and Neytiri, a marital dispute, very, very critical to the storyline,” Cameron continued. “I wound up shooting it all from the point of view of the eight-year-old hiding under the structure and peeking in.”
