Don’t call it a come back, but Street Fighter is officially back and relevant.
The official Japanese website and poster for 20th Century Fox’s new Street Fighter movie, Street Figther: The Legend of Chun Li are now online. Directed by Andrezj Bartowiak, SF: The Legned of Chun Li will open February 27, 2009 and is expected to be based loosely off the Street Figther mytho. It will star Kristin Kreuk (Chun Li), Michael Clarke Duncan (Balrog), Neal McDonough (M. Bison), Taboo (Vega), Chris Klein (Nash), Moon Bloodgood (Maya), Robin Shou (Gen), Cheng Pei Pei (Zhilan) and Edmund Chen (Huang).
When compared to the sucktastic 1994 Street Fighter movie staring Jean-Claude Van Damme, SF: The Legned of Chun Li only appears to suck not as much. While it’s too soon to label this an epic failure, it looks as if it’s heading toward that direction with the absence of Ryu and Ken and M.Bison and Balrog not being their traditional evil B.A.M.F. self.
PS: Since when did Chun Li have blue eyes? Really, a more suitable title for this movie would have been, Kristin Kreuk: Cosplaying as Chun Li.
