J.J. Abrams’ much anticipated Star Trek sequel is progressing very slowly, but thanks to TrekMovie, we now have some new information regarding when the film will start shooting, the locations, the script and the cast.
According to TrekMovie, the sequel is scheduled to begin filming on January 15th 2012, with a summer release in 2013. More importantly, screenwriters Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof have completed the third draft of the script and is set to go.
ILM will be handling the special effects. It’s said that a part of the film will be shot in Hawaii, as “Abrams himself traveled to Hawaii to scout a location which is being seriously considered for a “jungle planet.” Shooting will also take place inside a museum in Los Angeles, standing in for what a source said was a “famous Star Trek location.”
Lastly, there’s also some buzz about Benicio del Toro being considered for the lead role as the villain! If that doesn’t get any Trekker excited, I don’t know what will.
Stay tuned, we’ll have more as news come our way.
